About Scientific Calculator

This studio evaluates scientific and algebraic expressions natively using an advanced recursive descent parser. It supports operator precedence, trigonometric functions in Degrees and Radians, square and cube roots, logarithms, powers, and calculation tape history.

How to use Scientific Calculator

  1. Type an expression in the input, or click the on-screen keys.
  2. Choose degrees or radians before using trigonometric functions.
  3. Press Enter to evaluate. Results are added to the history tape.
  4. Click an earlier result to reuse it in a new calculation.

Worked examples

Input: 2 + 3 * 4

Result: 14. Multiplication is evaluated before addition.

Input: sin(30) in degree mode

Result: 0.5.

Input: sqrt(144) + 2^3

Result: 20.

Background

Expressions are parsed with a recursive descent parser that respects the standard order of operations: parentheses, exponents, multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction.

Floating-point arithmetic stores numbers in binary, so a result such as 0.1 + 0.2 can show a tiny error in the last digits. That is a property of how computers represent decimals, not a bug in the expression.

Common mistakes

  • Using the wrong angle mode. sin(30) is 0.5 in degrees but about -0.988 in radians.
  • Forgetting parentheses around a numerator or denominator when dividing expressions.
  • Expecting exact decimals from floating-point results and misreading tiny rounding differences.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which trigonometric functions are supported?
Standard sine (`sin`), cosine (`cos`), tangent (`tan`), and inverse functions (`asin`, `acos`, `atan`) in either Degrees or Radians.
Can I use mathematical constants?
Yes, Euler's constant `e` and Pi `pi` (or `π`) are recognized natively in expressions.
Is there calculation memory support?
Yes, the keypad includes MC (Memory Clear), MR (Memory Recall), M+ (Add to Memory), and M- (Subtract from Memory).
