About CSV to JSON

CSV (Comma-Separated Values) is the standard tabular data interchange format. This studio converts CSV and TSV data into flexible JSON structures (Array of Objects, 2D Matrix, Keyed Map, or Columnar lists), automatically detecting delimiters, parsing numeric and boolean primitives, and rendering a searchable data grid.

How to use CSV to JSON

Worked examples

Result: [{"city":"Paris","note":"cold, rainy"}] - the quoted comma stays inside the field.

Background

CSV looks simple but has rules: fields containing the delimiter, quotes or line breaks must be wrapped in double quotes, and a quote inside a quoted field is doubled. A parser that splits on commas breaks on these cases. This tool handles quoting properly.

CSV has no data types, so everything is text until parsed. Converting 007 into the number 7 loses leading zeros, which matters for IDs, postcodes and phone numbers.

Common mistakes

Losing leading zeros in IDs or postcodes after numeric parsing.
Missing the header row, so the first record becomes the keys.
Mixing delimiters in a single file, such as semicolons from a European Excel export.
