About Password Generator
Creating strong, unique passwords is the cornerstone of digital account security. This studio uses browser Web Cryptography (`crypto.getRandomValues`) to generate truly unguessable passwords, memorable multi-word Diceware passphrases, and numerical PINs, evaluating bits of entropy and brute-force resistance in real time.
How to use Password Generator
- Choose a random password, a passphrase or a PIN.
- Set the length and the character sets.
- Check the entropy and strength estimate.
- Copy the result straight into your password manager.
Worked examples
Input: 16 characters using upper, lower, digits and symbols
Result: About 105 bits of entropy, which is far beyond brute-force reach.
Input: 12 characters, letters and digits only
Result: About 71 bits of entropy, still strong for most accounts.
Background
Strength is measured in bits of entropy: length x log2(size of the character set). Each extra character multiplies the work for an attacker, so length matters more than complex symbols.
Passwords are generated using crypto.getRandomValues, the browser's secure random number source, and never leave your device. Use a unique password for each account, keep them in a password manager, and turn on two-factor authentication where available.
Common mistakes
- Reusing one strong password across several sites.
- Replacing letters with symbols in a predictable way, such as a for @.
- Saving passwords in plain notes or email.
