About Area & Land Converter
Area measurement units scale with the square of linear dimensions (e.g., doubling side length increases area by 4×).
This converter supports everyday floor plan metrics (square feet, square meters), agricultural/real estate measures (acres, hectares), and regional geographic metrics (square miles, square kilometers).
How to use Area & Land Converter

- Choose the unit you are converting from and the unit you want, such as square feet, square meters, acres or hectares.

Worked examples
Input: 2.5 acres to hectares
Result: About 1.0117 hectares.
Input: 1 acre to square feet
Result: 43,560 square feet.
Background
Area units scale with the square of length. Everything is converted through square meters using exact definitions: 1 hectare = 10,000 m2, 1 ft2 = 0.09290304 m2, 1 acre = 4,046.8564224 m2.
This is why doubling the side of a square quadruples its area, and why a conversion factor for area is the square of the matching length factor.
Common mistakes
- Using a length factor on an area. Feet to meters is 0.3048, but square feet to square meters is 0.3048 squared, about 0.0929.
- Mixing the US survey acre with the international acre for legal land measurements. They differ by a tiny fraction.
- Confusing acres with hectares. One hectare is about 2.47 acres.
